Kindling Works manifesto. Updates, embers, and in-process brilliance.
**New Pinterest Board Alert đš**
I finally made a Kindling Works board. Because life is color. And emotion. And beautiful sparkling things that inspire and encourage. đ„
âWe are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams.â
The quote that started it all.
When I was brainstorming business DBA ideas, this was the quote I couldnât get out of my head. Often attributed to Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, this is actually a line from the 1873 poem âOdeâ, by Arthur O'Shaughnessy.
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization), the art of optimizing content for easy perusing and siting by AI LLM platforms (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google SGE, etc.) is an incredibly new thing that barely exists. Already, Iâm seeing big asks for this on job listings and within roles; with some companies requesting 1-3 years of experience. What is happening?! đ«
A requirement of 1-3 years for something that only recently came to light and into practice is absurd, yes. But it proves GEO is here, itâs important, and itâs catching fire fast.
Hereâs an article from Foundation Marketing that walks you through content optimization tactics to help you get a foot in the GEO door now.
Need a flicker of inspiration? Iâve got you. đ„

Highlights on the list:
New computer, new vibes. I finally had to replace my ancient iMac (sadness) thatâs been through so much with me. But my new machine is fire (brightness) so Iâm choosing to focus on that. đ„
I recently tried to write the word âspiralingâ and instead typed psiraliygn.
Psiraliygn.
This is full-on brain chaos. Vibes channeled to energized Kindling kick-off momentum! đ
My trusty and squishy mascot. Yes: I have a support plushie. No shame.

Word of the moment: Effervescent
: marked by or expressing an appealingly lively quality
Thereâs that series I started on LinkedIn called SEARCHING Through the Noise. Itâs all about kindling(!) real connection in the digital age, and includes explorations into AI. Three articles are hanging out â and there will be more!
Some of my most memorable mistakesâŠ
Like the time I was confirming SWAG to my manager and sent an email with the subject line:
T-Sh*t Count đŹ
Or the time I sent a company-wide email, from the COOâs email address, regarding perhaps the biggest announcement in the companyâs history, and after many proofs and look-overs by many people, the graphic header text still read:
Big things are are happening. đ€
TIL Soft Content is a term for fun stuff like memes, playlists, etc.
Basically, stuff thatâs not meant to convert but to engage, and connect with people. I had no idea this was even a term. And now that I know? I hate it!
It should be Bright Content. Or Joy Buckets. Or something much more urgently happy.
To call it Soft Content diminishes the importance of it. Because content that engages and humanizes is proven to increase connection, open rates, responses, and more.
But waitâŠ
If joyful and fun content is all soft content, does that mean social media is literally a soft content haven? Are we all softies?
Iâm done for the day. đ
The Myself Epidemic!
âMyself and John⊠â or âPlease reply to myself⊠â - Referring to yourself as myself in this manner is incorrect.
âJohn and IâŠâ or even âJohn and meâŠâ is correct.
It is totally, a-okay to write âPlease reply to me⊠â
Constantly referring to yourself as myself is not required, does not make you sound more formal or experienced, and is a waste of letters and energy! đ
Off my soapbox.
Coming soon!
